80 V – (8 V/m) x

infinity

Sol.

V (x,y,z) – V (0, 0, 0) = – Ex

∴ V – 0 = – 8x

160 = – 8x; ∴ x = – 20

This equation represents a plane & all points on this plane have potential of 160 V

V – 80 = – 8 x

∴ V = 80 – 8x

V ∞ – V 0 = – 8x, (where, x = ∞ )

∴ 0 – V 0 = – 8 ( ∞ )

⇒ V 0 = ∞
